The legendary Taj Hotel, over a century old, at Apollo Bunder. It was commissioned by leading industrialist Jamshedji Tata. Elaborately designed, with materials and artefacts brought in from all over Europe it is the pride of Bombay. The story goes that Jamshedji was refused admission into a hotel because he was a 'native' i.e. an Indian, so he decided to build a hotel which would welcome all peoples, regardless of race or colour.
