The next morning we set off for the Castelo Sao Jorge. (Earlier we bought the day pass from the tourist office for 500$00 escudos each. This pass allows us unlimited use of Lisboa's pulic transport, including the elevadors). This photograph was taken during our 40-minute wait for the tram, which would eventually take us to our destination. Unfazed by the long wait, we entertained ourselves by watching events unfold on the mildly busy street around us ... a dog being chased by a boy flew by, a shoeshine man polished his clients shoes till they gleamed proudly, the cerverjaria (beer hall) nearby entertained a steady stream of clients, a vociferous altercation between not two but three angry drivers filled the air as they drove by, gesticulating belligerently.
