We entered Viana do Castelo (town at the bottom of the picture) via the Ponte Eiffel bridge that spanned the Rio Lima estuary. An ancient city, there are remains of Roman occupation in the 4th century in the hills nearby. It's development as a town started in the 13th century. This is the Alto Minho area, and Viana lies mid-way between Oporto to the South, and Spain to the North.
