Sea gulls at the waters edge in Vila Praia da Âncora
Legend has it that the origin of the name Âncora refers to the to the assassination of the queen Urraca by king Dom Ramiro II, who drowned her into the river with an anchor (Âncora in Portuguese) at her neck as a punishment for adultery. Yikes!
