A tram stop at the Praça de Commercio.
In Lisboa, we stayed at the Eduardo VII (part of the Best Western hotel chain) in the Marques de Pombal square. The staff at the reception were grumpy and un-cooperative, and the hotel rooms were cramped and stuffy, with the smell of stale cigarette smoke clinging heavily in the air. It was around 20C in Lisboa, dropping to a minimum of 12C at nights, and the heating system was running full strength at the hotel. The staff considered themselves still in the midst of winter. We slept with the windows open, allowing the all-night traffic sounds below to permeate our jet-lagged sleep. The only saving grace at the hotel was its sumptuous buffet breakfast.
