Arco da Rua Augusta, the triumphal arch,

Commercio
On our first day in Lisboa, we had 2 little edible treats: the first was
downing a shot of Ginjinha (pronounced geenzeenyah) from one of the
little hole in the wall places they are normally served in. A favourite
with Lisboans, this sweet liqueur is made from a berry akin to a cherry,
and is mixed with schnapps & sugar. It is sold for about 80 cents a
shot. We only tasted it only once during our entire stay in Portugal,
and it appears it seems to be specific only to Lisbon. The second treat
was roasted chestnuts. For about 200 escudos, you'd get a handful of
them - they were delicious! |
