Castelo São Jorge
Lisboa in the 14th century was declared the capital of Portugal, since much trade was happening though its port. The country prospered, and exported wine, hides, dried fish, wax, honey, cork, figs, almonds & olive oil to the rest of Europe. In exchange, spices were imported - nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, bay leaves, cloves & ginger, in addition to silk, wool and linens.
