Oporto city, with the 13th century rising in its centre.
On the hill beyond is where Vila Nova de Gaia is situated. The Rio Douro cuts through the 2 cities, and four bridges span the river, two are railway bridges, and the other two are motorways. This area has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO (left bank, taking in the Ponte de Luis bridge, Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar and the wine lodges that line the river bank in Gaia.)
