After a hearty breakfast at the Eduardo VII, we hailed a
cab for the Cais de Sodre railway station from where we were to
catch the train to Cascais. The station was small, housed in an old
lovely building. There were no ticket salesmen, just a huge automated
ticket dispenser from which we bought 2 tickets for ourselves at 210$00
escudos each. We were really impressed with the trains! Very contemporary
in style, with a pleasing combination of colours, they were comfortable
and bright. Even the seats were ergonomically designed! Shortly a few
day-trippers to Cascais & Estoril filled the train, and we were off, past
sights such as the Tower of Belem and the Geronimos
Monastery, and the towns of Oeiras, Carcavelos, Sao Pedro, Parede &
Estoril. After a pleasant half-hours journey we were in the little village
of Cascais. |
